My name is Michele McAlister. I’ve been a registered dietitian nutritionist for over 28 years including over 19 years of diabetes experience and am a certified diabetes educator. In addition to diabetes education I have specialized in weight management as a certified specialist in obesity and weight management. I also have experience in kidney disease management and in working with clients with autoimmune disease, gluten intolerance and food allergies primarily in adults.
I grew up in West Texas and am a Texas Tech graduate. I am the mother of two grown fabulous kids and the wife of a very supportive husband of 28 years living in Abilene, TX. I enjoy tap and jazz dancing and I perform every year with a group of fabulous ladies and men in two productions, lifting weights, walking and any class that resembles dance, and I practice daily meditation.
I enjoy helping others as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist & Certified Diabetes Educator and as a personal coach to cheer you on in your efforts of making changes and providing accountability.
My philosophy is not to just give a person a do’s and don’ts list but to give you practical tips that are realistic for your lifestyle. I’m a realist. I know that people have busy lifestyles and can’t always have the perfect diet or lifestyle.
In working with clients I use a holistic approach in helping people make lifestyle changes that may include looking at the root causes of poor health from a functional viewpoint. This may include nutritional assessment, stress management strategies and relaxation practices, behavior change strategies, mindful eating strategies, exercise recommendations, and nutrition to help balance our body’s ability to defend against oxidative stress. I am not a physician, so I do not treat disease, but I do offer suggestions that may strengthen a person’s ability to reduce oxidative stress that leads to disease. Using medical nutrition therapy and functional nutrition strategies I will educate on how food choices and supplementation, when appropriate, may help improve overall health and well being.
My goal is to give you the tools to make better choices for a healthier, balanced lifestyle that encompasses mind, body and spirit, and I believe in treating each person as an individual.
For those clients with diabetes I will educate you on how to care for your diabetes including strategies for preventing diabetes complications and improving your A1c and glycemic management.
